Seven years ago, we embarked upon the journey of homeschooling. It began with us deciding a different path was needed for my step-daughter, who at the time, was struggling with her 3rd grade public school experience. As a previous public school teacher, and then a home-based childcare and preschool provider, teaching and working with children has always been a passion of mine. I accepted the challenge back then with the gracious support of her mom and my husband, and now my step-daughter, who continues to homeschool, is finishing up her sophomore year of high school! I now also homeschool our four other children as well ranging in ages from 2-10 years old.
I did not travel this road alone, however. I have gleaned from so many wonderful friends and mentors from ages past and ages present, and I too continue to grow and learn as not one who has arrived, but as one who continues my own lifelong pursuit of education alongside my children.. May my voice find harmony within the greater chorus.
It is in this space that I intend to record and capture our days together on this crazy, beautiful, messy homeschooling journey and to invite you all too to join us in our lifelong learning narrative. I hope to relish, and remember the simple joys, the moments of shared wonder, the beautiful interactions, the wrestling with truth, the hands-on fun, the self-exploration, the budding friendships and creative outpourings, so when we hit those bumps in the road and challenging days and seasons, we have someplace to recount, reflect, remember and refocus.
It is my hope, as it continues to evolve, that Home-Sown, Home-Grown will be
a place to kindle, encourage, and equip those who are perhaps just now beginning to consider the lifestyle of home education
as well as spur on and reignite those who may be currently home educating.
